Behaviour:

Totally amazing experience. First time I have seen so many whales in the same area. Humongous group of birds feeding, so much activity with the whales diving in and around the birds and us. We stayed with them for at least 40minutes with the food and bird groups moving around the water, sometimes close to us and sometimes further away. Got a few very good videos, please see links and pictures - its hard to describe the volume and encounters. The calf seen was very small, a lttle bigger than a common dolphin but suspected to be smaller than a bottle nose dolphin. It is seen in at least 2 of the videos and Tom has a quick picture. AN experience of a lifetime for me!

We then lost the Minke as it headed further North but the shark was still feeding on the surface so we watched that for a while.

Minke Whale x 2

Shear waters, fulmars and gannets

Laurenca - Full day marine wildlife and whale watching trip

Exiting the Isle of Muck

Flat calm, mirror seas, slightly over cast with sunny spells- perfect sighting conditions

Behaviour:

As we left Muck we came across another large group of feeding birds. We floated on the outskirts of the group and watched a minke also feeding around the group with porpoises to the side. This was one of my best experiences with feeding whales and feeding birds together. The birds did manage to group the feed into a ball and within the large mass of birds, 40-50 started to concentrate their feeding on a small section of water about 20metres from the boat. It was impressive but then the Minke whale came up between us and the ball of birds. It was so quiet everywhere except for the birds feeding, the minke breathing and the occasional porpoise popping up. As we moved off the Minke whale also went the same way, surfacing several times along side us. We then came across yet another large group of feeding birds with a second Minke feeding in it. We continued on our way home but saw the 2 whales surfacing together between feeding. Really great day with more porpoises on the way home. Gorgeous weather, huge amount of food around -great sightings!!

Nice evening, slight breeze

Behaviour:

It was wondering along the road when it suddenly spotted Tag the labrador and darted into the trees. Tag on the lead had a good sniff but we didn't see it again. Pine martens often spotted around that area.

The puffins looked like they were mainly nest builing still, with a lot collecting grass. Some of the Puffins were seen with fish in their beaks presumably for their young so a big mix there. Guilimots were sitting on eggs but no chicks spotted this time, videos and pictures taken. We saw 2 puffins fighting down a hill, please see video, plenty of Razor bills and shags. Most of the shags had chicks which is good to see. Weather lovely on the island with great views back to the mainland and out to the surrounding islands.

Videos

Behaviour:

When first spotted we had 4 surfaces, the whale then dived down to feed. We waited for it to come up and then we had another sighting further west than expected. We started to think there may be more than one whale in the are. This was confirmed about 10 minutes later when the whales started to surface together yet 200m apart. One whale surfaced around 50meters from the bow of the boat at one stage but most of the sightings were 200-300 meters away. Please see video and pictures showing the larger whale.
